Once upon a cold and windy night in Toronto ...

So in another impromptu photoshoot, which probably lasted ten minutes - maximum (due to the extreme cold and wind), we managed to grab a few good photos. There was absolutely no lighting at this dock, so I made due with my flash Thanks Naila for putting up with the cold!!

Autumn Leaves

So Autumn is officially here, and I know this not just because of the obvious "its past Sept.21st" but because the leaves have started to change colours. However, since the weather has been fabulous these past few days, fountains like the one shown in the background are still going. I found it particularly interesting to mix the fall colours with the bright summer-like blue colours. Nicole (top image) and I (bottom image) had a lot of fun shooting these pics and were really happy with how they came out!

Not Ready to let go of Summer

These pics are from my latest shoot, on the Harbourfront boardwalk, with Nathalie. Shooting during the week rather than weekends is much more convenient because there aren't as many people walking by/staring/taking pictures of the photoshoot. Taken just past sunset the mixing of warm and cool colours, I think are what make these images interesting. For this shoot I collaborated with a makeup artist and I really like the natural, elegant makeup.

My New Redish Hair

Its been a week since I've used my camera due to summer school midterm exams (which I aced!!!) and so I decided to use myself as a subject. I recently died my hair a more redish brown colour, so thats what I'm trying to capture/feature here. I tried to use a fan to get some fancy hair flowing buuuuuut it kind of backfired on me - and my bangs just kept getting blown into my face. Oh well!

Just an Evening Stroll Through Yorkville

As the title describes, this impromptu photoshoot occurred during an evening stroll through Yorkville this past week. At night, cumberland street, the park and the landscaping/architecture is beautifully light up, creating a sort of romantic atmosphere. Photoshop helped to eliminate some shadows in the image, adding to the beautifully light up background. You may remember Jonna (top) from my very first blog post ever (Rocker Chic), and the bottom image features bombshell Caitlin.

Classic

The image on the top is reminiscent of my very first photoshoot ever, back in 2007, (see bottom image) when I first got my DSLR, which at the time was a Sony a200. But since then I've grown up and upgraded and I'm now shooting with a Canon 60D. My model has also grown up quite a bit, but still looks just as cute and pretty as ever!

28 Degrees + Summer Breeze

Although the sun was beating down and the day was approximately 28 degrees, the breeze kept things cool. I always feel that the perfect summer day is when the sun is shining, the breeze is blowing, and the birds singing.  This shoot was relatively spontaneous and really just inspired by passing time in the shade, camera in hand.

Gossip Girl Inspired

As the picture implies, these women mean business! (They are actually super sweet, and a lot of fun to work with, not to mention dress to impress). The women showed here are the executive committee for WIB. The Women in Business at University of Toronto Rotman Commerce "aims to highlight the success of female leaders in business and offer opportunities for students to be exposed to different industries and companies through events, programs, and partnerships", but I think it should also read, inspiring business women everywhere, intelligence, fashion and attitude. It was a pleasure working with you ladies!

"Things in my Backyard"

So today, as I was studying for my Abstract Art class (outside of course - I'm not letting summer school get in the way of having a tan), I got a little distracted by this weird looking bug that kept flying around me. I decided to watch him and his moves, in order to catch him before he landed on/bit me. He buzzed around for a bit and then dove right into the grass. He disappeared. I was immediately reminded of that Ants movie from my childhood, and again fascinated by the idea of seeing the world as a small creature, or even seeing the world from different perspectives. That's what brought this little series about. Some images are pretty easily recognizable, but perhaps they are things that we don't usually look at or, at least don't look at from these angles. Enjoy!

Green grass and flowers

The weather outside has me wanting to do another green scenery photoshoot. This one here is an oldie, and you probably recognize the dress and the model from a previous blog post, thats because this is from the same series. Things that I love about this photo is the different shades of green, the bare foot being tickled by grass, and the sun's backlighting. Hopefully the weather keeps up, cause I'm inspired to do a similar looking shoot soon!!

Talk About Stunning Headshots...

So its been a while since I've done a photoshoot, but finally, I got around to one, and the shots turned out wonderfully. There are so many more great images, but I was too excited to post this one in particular, the others will have to wait. I've been wanting to add another really great headshot to my portfolio, and I really love this shot, mostly because I find the contrast between Caitlin's piercing light eyes and the dark red colours of the photo very interesting. Although the necklace is intended as a statement piece, I really think it compliments and neutralizes the warm colours in the image.

The magic of Picnik

Wow, so exams totally distracted me from creating a new blog post, however I hope I've made up for it with this large series of photos. I took these about two years ago but got inspired to dig them up from my hard drive a few days ago when I registered for the premium version of Picnik which is an online image editor. I re-edited my photos and cross processed them to give them a new feel. I was also inspired to pull these out due to the overwhelming amount of nautical inspired clothing that is in stores right now.
As for location, these were all taken in a little spot on Harbourfront close to where York St ends. I highly recommend it for photoshoots or even for cute little picnics.

Carefree

Also taken on Miami Beach, I love this photo because it has a sense of warmth and happiness to it. I personally love the sun, the smell of the beach, the feeling of sand in between your toes and the cold splash of water when it first hits your sunburnt feet - haha. Nicole twirls around at the edge of the beach and truly takes the whole experience in. I can't wait 'till summer!!!

The Night is Young

This shoot was shot right beside Pearson Airport. At this hour the planes landing pass right over your heads, and I was hoping to get them in the shot, but as I quickly noticed, planes only landed every five minutes and there was a lot of time to shoot between plane landings. The best shots ended up being taken in these 'between' periods. It funny but every time I look at these pictures, the setting and model kind of remind of a character Jlo would probably play in a drama movie.

Rock the Runway 2011, Ask & Embla Collection

These images are from Ask & Embla's fashion show at Rock the Runway held at the Royal Ontario Museum March 5th. These models look sharp walking down the catwalk in their professional business apparel. Bright coloured leather handbags bring an added flare to each outfit.
"From cutting and stitching to the finishing of leather edges, each facet of every item is completed entirely by hand. In this way, no two pieces are truly the same and each individual product captures the soul of craftsmanship and unabashed passion" (Rock the Runway).

Rock The Runway 2011, Christopher J. Nevin Collection

These photos above are from Christopher J. Nevin's Collection at Rock the Runway last week. Among the many amazing pieces, these three were my favourite and were worn beautifully by these models. Abandoned

These photos were taken right outside an old abandoned movie theatre in Etobicoke last summer. In the picture on the top Lucas takes a break from a long bike ride. The bottom picture is actually of me, posing as a girl lost or maybe abandoned outside this run down building.

A Quiet Spot

Taken almost two years ago now, believe it or not this shot was taken in the backyard of my previous house. Nicole sits on a rickety bridge where the only sounds are that of a small creek and the chirping of the birds. Although this quiet spot looks so calm and peaceful, I like that this image gives off a sense of uneasiness, as though Nicole can't find her way home and has just stopped to take a break on the side of this old wooden bridge.

Fun in the Sun

These images are from my most recent photoshoot. They were taken along Miami Beach this past week. As I'm sure I've mentioned before, I love shooting outdoors, there is just something about outdoor lighting that is more intriguing, and I have to say the lighting in Miami is just about perfect. Katrina walks along South Beach and the boardwalk around Ocean Drive and 7th. Although there were so many great shots from this shoot, these two are my favourite, as they portray a lifestyle that I would love to live everyday.

Lonely Man

I took the image three years ago when I was in the Honolulu airport. Me and my friends were rushing from one end of the airport to the other when I stumbled across this man sitting so still in a bus waiting area. The world around him was moving quickly, people with cell phones and suitcases, and buses carting around people from point A to B, yet, he just sat there, watching it all go by. I love the contrast in this image, and that it just barely lights up his outline.

Flowers and Dresses

All this temporary warmish weather downtown Toronto has people anxiously waiting for Spring time to come. The greenery in these two images remind of how much I love shooting outdoors, a intricate and vibrant background like trees, or flowers, I feel, give a finishing touch to any photo. Here, Kristen models two different floral print dresses in a little park near harbourfront. I love the first photo and its seriousness and careful attention to lines and angles, but I love the second one too because its so carefree and happy.

Two wrongs make a right

This ones an old shot from a photoshoot with Bianka. Although there were many great images, I really liked this one A) because it was so dark, B) because there is one candle thats not lit. It just kinda makes the whole image unbalanced in a subtle way. The crooked candles and the unlit candle made for a great capture.

Green Trees and Purple Flowers

Captured on a breezy spring day, these images remind me of the beauty of spring flowers, the colour green all around, and the sound of ruffling leaves. Colleen poses here in a small park like area at harbourfront, one of my personal favourite locations to shoot. There were so many great images that came from this shoot, but I'll save those  for a later date!

Long legs for long walks on the boardwalk

These two pictures are from a photoshoot I did in the Harbourfront area, Toronto, during the past summer. One of my favourite places to just sit and eat lunch, watch the water, the seagulls and the people. The amount of happy people in this area in the summer time inspired me to do a casual looking shoot on the boardwalk. Lydia, a Toronto aspiring model, walks the boardwalk with confidence on this Friday night sunset. She definitely walked up a storm and although you cant see it in these images, there were crowds of people just watching the photoshoot take place. People came up to me after asking what magazine the images would be published in, I felt so famous, haha.

Going up...

This is actually from my very first photoshoot. What was supposed to be a subway tunnel photoshoot, turned into an escalator shoot. It just so happened that the escalator was in fact stopped, which allowed for the model, Samantha, to be able to pose without having to get off and ride back up every 2 minutes. Below are my favourite subway tunnel shots.

This ones a oldie but a goodie

This shot is from a shoot I did last year. Still one of my favourite images, mostly because its so unique and random. Ashley, a University of Toronto graduate and good friend of mine, poses as though she has just caught herself while gracefully falling down the stairs. This was a collaborated shoot, although styling and photography were done by myself, makeup and hair were done by Natalie (heres her Model Mayhem page: http://www.modelmayhem.com/1400024)

Rocker Chic

I just upgraded my old DLSR Sony a200 to a Canon 60D. I'm very happy with my new camera, and its quality in photos. These are some of the best images from my first photoshoot of the year. The dim lighting in this College St lounge, the black leather couches and brick backdrop really added to the Rockstar themed shoot. Here, Jonna, a first year University of Toronto student wears a leather inspired rocker chic outfit.
